Arsenic is one of the chemical pollutants that could exist in water and enter into human body through drinking and cause its own health and medical problems. This element is distributed in environment extensively and in abundance term, it is the 20th crust element and relatively scarce. The general abundance of arsenic in earth crust is estimated as 1.5 to 2 ppm. Unlike most environmental pollutants, there are extensive information on inorganic arsenic and human exposure. Long-term consumption of drinking water with arsenic contamination causes skin damages including keratosis, hyper pigmentation and hypo-pigmentation, ultimately skin cancer, cardiovascular diseases, pulmonary diseases, hyper tension, lungs and kidney cancers. In addition, Arsenic toxicities cause a special disease which is called Arsenicosis.
Arsenic might enter into lakes, rivers and natural underground waters through disintegration of mineral sediments and rocks (that contain inorganic arsenic). There is another way that arsenic might be discharged in those sources: direct discharge of industrial waste waters, deposition of arsenic particles in air dust, snow or rain. Those arsenic particles might also enter into air by combustion of fossil fuels (particularly coal), metals (gold and major inorganic metals), agricultural consumptions (pest controls and foods additives) or ash of garbage and sewage burning.
